A new edition of The Mac in Beijing Primer has been made available today by the Beijing Macintosh Union. The Primer, which first started in 2004, is an invaluable guide to the Mac world in Beijing and will only be offered for members of the user group. The Primer will given for free to all members who have joined the user group.
The expat market in Beijing is sizeable and account for a significant number of Mac people in the Chinese capital. However, due to factors including the language barrier, expat Mac users often feel left out and face confusion when it comes to matters as simple as getting a Mac fixed, or when it comes to communicating how their Macs went bad. The Primer is a unique bridge between the expat Mac user and the Beijing Mac community.
The new edition of the Primer has been expanded to over 40 pages in full color (the previous Primer had only 8 pages). The Primer provides a unique Mac-friendly map of the Chinese capital and tells readers where to buy Mac equipment. In addition, possible scams are exposed to alert buyers, and the new edition of the Primer also focuses on Mac communities as well as support info. An extensive question-and-answer segment is also available.
"The new edition of The Mac in Beijing Primer showcases what we as Beijing's international Mac community are best at doing," commented David Feng, President of the Beijing Macintosh Union and of the Beijing Macintosh User Group. "This guide will be an invaluable guide for all English-speaking Mac and iPod people."
The new Primer focuses on the following topics, amongst others:
* The stats and facts of Macs and iPods in China
* Detailled information about where to buy Macs, as well as pitfalls to avoid
* A look into the Beijing Mac user communities
* Details about Macs and the Internet in China
* Information about Macintosh support in Beijing
* Frequently asked questions regarding the Mac in Beijing and around China
* Basic Mac Chinese (with pinyin romanization and Chinese characters), which includes troubleshooting vocabulary
* Web links to Chinese language Mac sites; and much more.
Up-to-date, informative and reader-friendly, the new Primer is available for both current members and new members who have selected English as their membership language. Based on demand, other language versions of the Primer may be released in future. To get the full Primer, membership at the BeiMac user group (open to all persons around the world aged 14 or older) is needed (you can apply here).
A sampler of the Primer is available for download (2.4 MB PDF file). |
